Revopoint INSPIRE 2 vs POP 4: What the Specifications Do Not Settle
These two scanners are not a cheaper one and a better one. The POP 4 buys more scanning modes, finer resolution and a smaller minimum object; the INSPIRE 2 buys the same headline laser-accuracy figure for less money. Which is the right purchase depends on what you point it at — and two of the things that decide it appear on neither specification page.

We have not tested either scanner ourselves. This guide is built on five sources fetched on 23 August 2026: the two Revopoint product pages, two independent published tests of the INSPIRE 2, and one independent published test of the POP 4. All five are named at the end, along with the ones we read and did not use.
That imbalance is worth stating before you read any further. Where this guide says something about the POP 4's limits, it is reporting one reviewer, named in the text. Where it says something about the INSPIRE 2's, two reviewers found it independently, three months apart.
What the two specification pages state
Everything in the table below comes from the two Revopoint product pages, read on 23 August 2026. The wording in each cell follows the page it came from.
One line of that table deserves more than a cell. Both scanners quote 0.03 mm, and on the POP 4 that is one of three accuracy figures its page gives, each tied to a different light source: "Line Laser Accuracy: 0.03 mm", "Full-field Structured Light Accuracy: 0.08 mm", and "VCSEL Structured Light Accuracy: 0.10 mm @ 300-500 mm, 0.20 mm @ 500-800 mm". The headline number is the best of the three and not the one you get in the mode the page recommends for scanning outdoors quickly. At 0.20 mm, that mode is roughly seven times coarser than the figure on the box.

Every cell above is quoted or condensed from the INSPIRE 2 and POP 4 product pages, read on 23 August 2026. The requirement for markers in laser mode is stated explicitly on the POP 4's page — "In laser line scanning mode, using markers is a must" — and the INSPIRE 2's page describes the same behaviour without putting it that bluntly.
What two reviewers found on the INSPIRE 2
Two people published tests of the INSPIRE 2 three months apart, and both arrived at the same complaint. Paul Hatton, writing for Creative Bloq in March 2026, scanned a deliberately shiny object and reported that "the Inspire 2 wasn't in any way 'phased' by the shiny object, but it did require a lot of markers." Phillip Keane, testing for 3DPrinting.com in June, put it as a comparison: "The Inspire 2 is especially marker hungry, more so than previous scanners we have tested from Revopoint."
Hatton went further than an observation. "It required so many that it made me wonder if marker spray would have been easier. I wouldn't want to rely on the INSPIRE 2 if I were scanning shiny objects regularly." His own don't-buy line names the case directly: do not buy it if "You're going to be scanning shiny objects day in day out." That is a reviewer ruling out one specific use of a scanner that, in his own test, handled the shiny object itself.
Keane hit a second problem, and this one is reported by him alone. Having used markers, he tried the software's marker-removal feature: "When the marker removal feature was used in Revo Metro, it left large holes all over the finished scan, thus making it unusable." One test, one reviewer — and it is the only account in this set of what happens after the markers go on.
He also described handheld use as "a little jittery, especially with regards to losing tracking on certain items." Again, his test alone.
Not everything he found was a limit. Comparing the INSPIRE 2 against a scanner he had tested previously, which was "occasionally failing to register certain colors (orange) on the model", he reported that "The Inspire 2 had no issue scanning all colors."
What one reviewer found on the POP 4
Everything in this section comes from one source: 3DWithUs, which published a series of its own scanning tests of the POP 4. One test is not two, and nothing below should be read as settled.
On a black propeller — the kind of surface that usually needs coating — 3DWithUs reported that "even the black propeller could be captured after choosing the right mode and settings." The qualifier is doing work there, and so is what came next: "the sprayed-white version produced cleaner results." The scanner managed without spray; it did better with it.
The same propeller exposed the limit. The scan "captured the main reference geometry, including the hub, center hole, blade count, and overall blade shape, but the thin blade edges remained rough." 3DWithUs' summary is that "tiny thin blades remain very challenging", and that what came out was a "useful reference scan rather than a ready-to-print replacement."
Their overall verdict is about effort rather than capability. The POP 4 rewards "learning, mode selection, object preparation, and patience", and it is not for anyone after a "magic one-click solution".
One more, worth knowing before you buy a scanner for colour work: capturing colour and printing it are different problems. In 3DWithUs' words, "turning a color scan into a practical multi-color 3D print remains a more complicated workflow."
Markers, and the number neither page gives
Markers are where the specification pages and the reviewers diverge, and the divergence is an absence rather than a contradiction. Neither of the two manufacturer pages surveyed here states how many markers a difficult scan needs. Both pages establish that markers are used — the POP 4's is explicit that "In laser line scanning mode, using markers is a must", and that "In structured light scanning mode, it depends on object features" — but neither carries a quantity, a density, or any sense of how long the placing takes.
That is a claim about the text of those two pages, and two is a small set: it is every manufacturer page in this survey, not every manufacturer page there is. What makes it worth stating is that both independent tests of the INSPIRE 2 raised the marker burden without being asked, and one of them raised it as a reason not to buy.
Marker removal is the same shape. Neither of the two manufacturer pages surveyed here discusses taking markers off a finished scan, or what that does to the result. The one source here that tried it, Keane at 3DPrinting.com, described the scan afterwards as unusable.
The practical reading, and it is a reading rather than a finding: if most of what you scan is shiny, budget for markers or spray with either of these scanners, and put the setup time into the decision alongside the price. Nothing on the two specification pages will help you estimate it.
Spray, and one place the POP 4's page reads oddly
Both pages tell you to reach for scanning spray on the hard surfaces. The INSPIRE 2's page recommends "scanning spray or developer" for transparent and reflective objects. The POP 4's says "Please use scanning spray when scanning transparent or specular surfaces."
The POP 4's page also says this: "Capture flat, shiny, or dark surfaces without scanning spray." Both sentences are on the same page. "Shiny" and "specular" are being used to mean different things, and the page defines neither. We are not going to tell you what to make of that. We are telling you both sentences are there, and that if the first one is why you are buying the scanner, the second one is the qualifier attached to it.

Small parts and thin features
The POP 4 goes smaller than the INSPIRE 2: a minimum scan volume of 10 × 10 × 10 mm against 20 × 20 × 20 mm. That is the size of the object. It is not a statement about the size of the features on it.
Neither of the two manufacturer pages surveyed here states a lower limit on feature size — how thin an edge can be and still come out. Minimum scan volume appears on both pages; minimum feature thickness appears on neither.
The one place a limit shows up is 3DWithUs' propeller, where the blades came out rough and the result was a reference rather than a printable part. That is one object on one scanner, so treat it as a warning rather than a specification. The reading we would offer: if your work is small mechanical parts, treat either scanner as a reference-capture tool until you have tried it on your own geometry, and do not assume the minimum scan volume answers the thin-edge question, because it does not.
Colour, and why this guide does not compare it
A comparison guide should say what it is not comparing. This guide does not rank the two scanners on colour capture. The reason is procedural: we could not confirm an explicit colour specification on the INSPIRE 2's product page, and an asymmetry in what we managed to extract from two pages is not evidence of an asymmetry between two products.
What we can report is Keane's test, above. He scanned colour on the INSPIRE 2 and had no trouble with it. If colour is the reason you are buying, read both product pages yourself before you decide.
The prices we saw, and what they are worth
Prices change and we do not track them, so what follows is dated context rather than an offer. On 23 August 2026, Revopoint's own product pages listed the INSPIRE 2 at a sale price of $439.00 against a regular price of $549.00, and the POP 4 at a sale price of $713.00 against a regular price of $839.00 — about $274 between them on that day. Both were promotional figures shown alongside a higher one, which is a state that ends. Check the pages for what they say today.
That gap is the decision, and it is not a good/better decision. What the extra buys, on the specifications, is three more scanning modes, a fused point distance of 0.05 mm against 0.1 mm, and the ability to work down to a 10 mm object. What it does not buy is a different headline laser-accuracy figure: both pages state 0.03 mm.
How we chose these sources
Two searches, run on 23 August 2026: "Revopoint INSPIRE 2 3D scanner specifications accuracy" and "Revopoint POP 4 3D scanner specifications accuracy review". Every result on the first page was considered. We fetched a source if it was the manufacturer's own product page, or an editorially independent site publishing its own testing. We excluded retailer listings, press-release rewrites, and Revopoint's own blog posts about its own products. You can re-run both searches and check both the set and the exclusions.
The five surveyed: Revopoint's INSPIRE 2 product page; Revopoint's POP 4 product page; Paul Hatton's INSPIRE 2 test for Creative Bloq, 15 March 2026; Phillip Keane's INSPIRE 2 review for 3DPrinting.com, 17 June 2026; and 3DWithUs' POP 4 scanning tests. Two vendor pages and three independent tests — two of the INSPIRE 2, one of the POP 4.
Read and excluded, with the reason: TechWalls' POP 4 piece, which is a press-release rewrite carrying no testing and its own affiliate disclosure; two Revopoint blog posts, one on each scanner, which are the manufacturer reviewing itself; 3DJake's retailer listings for both models, which do no testing; 3D Printing Industry's POP 4 Kickstarter announcement, whose specifications and pricing are superseded by the shipping product page; and Quality Magazine's INSPIRE 2 item, which is a trade announcement.
Three further pages — 3DWork, Basic Tutorials and TT3DPrint — were seen and deliberately not fetched, because the survey already had three independent tests and they were not needed to bound the claims above. We are naming them rather than leaving them out, because a set you cannot see is a set you cannot check.
The imbalance stands as a weakness of this guide, and we would rather say so than let the layout imply otherwise. The POP 4 has one independent test in this set and the INSPIRE 2 has two, so a second POP 4 test could change what the section above says. If the POP 4 is your likely pick, read more than we did.
We have not tested either scanner ourselves. TaviGam has an affiliate relationship with Revopoint, disclosed above; it does not change what we would tell a friend, and two of the observations here are mild criticisms of Revopoint's own product pages. The prices quoted are the ones those pages showed on a single day and are not an offer.
The short version
Both pages state 0.03 mm laser accuracy. The POP 4 adds modes, resolves finer and goes smaller; the INSPIRE 2 costs less for the same headline figure. Neither of those differences is what the reviewers spent their words on.
They spent their words on markers. Two independent tests of the INSPIRE 2 called it marker-hungry, one of them firmly enough to name daily shiny-object work as a reason not to buy it, and the only account of removing markers afterwards describes the scan coming out unusable. The POP 4's single independent test got a black surface without spray and still lost the thin edges.
So the question worth answering before you choose is not which specification sheet you prefer. It is what you are going to scan, how shiny it is, how thin its features are — and how much of your time you are willing to spend sticking dots on it.
Who this suits
- Someone who has settled on Revopoint and is choosing between these two specific models.
- Makers scanning small mechanical parts, who need to know where the resolution figures stop answering the question.
- Anyone weighing the POP 4's higher price against what the difference actually is on the specification pages.
- Readers who want the independent testing gathered in one place, with the number of sources behind each claim stated rather than implied.
Who it does not suit
- Anyone wanting a verdict. This guide names no winner, because two independent tests of one scanner and a single test of the other do not support one.
- Buyers comparing across brands. Only Revopoint's own two models are here.
- Anyone who needs a current price. The figures here are from one day, are not tracked, and will be wrong before long.
- Readers wanting colour capture ranked. This guide deliberately does not rank it, and the section on colour explains why.
- Anyone expecting a scanner that needs neither markers nor spray. On their own pages, neither of these is that.
